Gea Casolaro, lives between Rome and Paris. For over twenty-five years, her work has probed our relationship with images, current events, society and history through photography, video, installations and writing. Her research aims to activate a permanent dialogue between experiences and people, to broaden our capacity for analysis and knowledge of reality through the points of view of others.

In 2009, Gea Casolaro spent nine months in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris to work on her project Still here on the relationship between photography, cinema and everyday life in the French capital.

In 2011, during the 54th Venice Biennale, Italian Pavilion in the world, she exhibited a series of works at the Italian Cultural Institute in Strasbourg, regarding the theme of borders.

In 2013, Gea Casolaro was in residence for three months at the Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, creating a collective work with a group of students of the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design entitled Sharing Gazes. During the same year, she completed two commissioned photographic missions: the first in the Principality of Monaco (the work produced, Forever Monte-Carlo, was exhibited at The Forbes Galleries in New York); the second in Luxembourg at the CNA Centre National de l'Audiovisuel, where she created a portrait of the complex facets of the country through an exhibition of relational-mail-art, entitled Send Me a Postcard, a site aside, inside, in between, away.

In 2015, she was in residence for over two months at the Italian Cultural Institute in Lima for a participatory art project inspired by the work of the Andean photographer Martín Chambi, with a group of professional and non-professional photographers.

In 2016, she was the winning artist of a tender by the Municipality of Casale Monferrato for the construction of a public art monument for the "Eternot Park", created on the site where the infamous Eternit factory once stood.

She held personal exhibitions in 2017, Con lo sguardo dell’altro, at the Macro, Museum of contemporary art in Rome, and in 2018, Nel corpo della città, multi-location exhibition in three places around the Roman capital, a project commissioned by the Museo Laboratorio della Mente.

In 2019, she exhibited her permanent installation Arbor Vitae. Giù le armi dalle mani, for the Mufar, Museo Fabbrica d’Armi delle Reali Ferriere Borboniche of Mongiana, created in collaboration with the students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro, the focus Gea Casolaro. La Poesia dell’impegno dedicated to her video work by the Maxxi Museum of XXI Century Arts, and the personal exhibition Molto visibile, troppo invisibile at The Gallery Apart gallery in Rome.
